DRAFT Different ways to vote: voting in person
The most common way to vote in the UK is in person at your local polling station on election day. Polling stations are open from 7am to 10pm, giving you plenty of time to fit it around your day.
You’ll receive a poll card in the post before the election – this will tell you where your polling station is. You don’t need to take the card with you to vote, but it’s helpful to have.
In England, Scotland and Wales, you now need to bring photo ID to vote in person (Northern Ireland already had voter ID requirements). Accepted forms of ID include a passport, driving licence, or a PASS card (Proof of Age Standards Scheme). The ID can be expired, as long as the photo still looks like you.
If you don’t have a valid form of ID, you can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate – we’ll cover how to do that later in the training.
