Q1. At what age can you register to vote in England?
Q2. Which of the following do you need in order to register to vote?
Q3. Which of these groups is less likely to be registered to vote?
Q4. What’s one common reason why young people aren’t registered to vote?
In England, you can register to vote from the age of 16 – even though you can’t vote in most elections until you’re 18. The government has stated its intention to lower the voting age to 16 years old before the next general election, so this may change in the future.
To register, you’ll need to provide your name, address, date of birth, nationality, and National Insurance number (if you have one). This helps verify your identity.
People who rent are much less likely to be registered to vote than those who own their home.
Many young people believe they’re automatically registered, especially if they’ve moved recently or live in shared housing – but registration must be done individually.
