You need a valid reason to vote by proxy. Valid reasons include being away on polling day, being registered as an overseas voter, having a medical issue or disability, or not being able to vote in person because of work or military service.
If you don’t have an accepted form of photo ID, you can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate before the deadline. If you turn up on polling day without either, you won’t be allowed to vote in person.
Only certain official photo IDs are accepted at polling stations – this includes passports, driving licences and PASS cards. College or university IDs are not currently accepted forms of voter ID.
