On the 23rd June 2021, a Year 10 class at Claremont Fan Court School in Esher took part in a Digital Surgery with Richard Williams from Elmbridge Borough Council, who has responsibility for social affairs.

One student frequents the West End Recreational Ground on West End Lane and asked Richard why the local football nets are always taken away and if it would be possible for these nets to be permanently installed.

Following the Digital Surgery, Richard spoke with the council officers to find out the feasibility of this but, unfortunately, the football nets are not able to be permanently installed.

However, Richard recorded a video to explain to the student why this is the case. He stated that “The contractors need to maintain the fields and the bit that gets heavily worn is by the pitches and nets. Permanent nets would result in them not being able to maintain this easily.” Richard finished his message to the students by saying he was “delighted” to have spoke with them.
