Cllr Jan Goodeve raises students' concerns about the need for gender-neutral toilets
PLEDGE STATUS: COMPLETE
A Year 9 class from Simon Balle School in Hertfordshire took part in a Digital Surgery on 7th June 2021 with Jan Goodeve, Councillor for Castle Ward on East Herts District and Hertford Town Councils. One of the students expressed concern about the need for more gender-neutral public toilets. She wanted to ensure there is inclusivity of non-binary people in Hertford public spaces.
Although Jan did not know the amount of gender-neutral public toilets in town, she said she would be happy to look into this issue for the student. Two weeks later, she informed us that the Parks Management Team are exploring the option of there being a disabled public toilet on Hertford Common that is gender-neutral and therefore accessible for all people.
The Year 9 class teacher, Jenny McGovern said ‘It’s great to see their ideas being addressed and followed up on.”
