On the 8th July 2022, over 150 Year 9 students at Haverstock School met with their local Haverstock Councillor, Kemi Atolagbe for a Digital Surgery. The students asked Cllr Atolagbe about a range of different issues including favourite school subjects, representation in politics and the highs and lows of being a politician.

During a discussion about public transport, one student asked “Is it true that the number 31 bus route is being taken away?” with others echoing that they use this bus to get to school and a range of activities. Cllr Atolagbe empathised with the students’ concerns as a local resident but explained how as a Councillor she understood the “that we have to make some cuts due to funding.” However, she was keen to let the students know that TFL were having a public consultation and that Year 9 had the opportunity to have their voices heard about a decision that will directly affect their daily life.

Immediately after the surgery ended, we received all the information from Cllr Atolagbe on how the young people could get themselves involved in the discussion with TFL about the proposed bus routes and sent this over to their teacher, Nina Morris-Evans. She said “Huge thanks to all of you at The Politics Project. Having run two sessions this week the school has been buzzing with political chat for a range of reasons and it's been great to have the surgeries running alongside current affairs.”
