On 1st December 2021, Wellacre Academy students, from a range of year groups, met their local councillor Simon Thomas. During their surgery, a student asked Cllr Thomas why Broadway football nets were taken down. As Cllr Thomas did not know the answer, he contacted the Executive Member on the Council for Leisure to ask why this was the case.

The Executive Member reported back to him that once football seasons are over, sometimes nets and posts are removed to allow the grass to recover. The nets are provided specifically for clubs that make bookings rather than the general public and currently only Trafford Juniors use the pitches. Cllr Thomas has since shared this information with the students in the class. He noted the Executive Member for Leisure was very grateful to the students for taking the take to ask these questions and they were “very relevant and exhibited excellent care for the community and environment by the pupils.”
